Paulson Institute Joins Panel on Clean Tech Challenges and Opportunities in China

At a seminar convened by the European Chamber of Commerce for Beijing’s business community, Paulson Institute Associate Director of Research Anders Hove joined a panel discussion that explored potential market access challenges as well as legal and regulatory issues that foreign companies working on clean tech and environment-related issues may face in China. The panel followed a speech by Goldman Sachs’ Julian Zhu, Co-Head China Equity Research and one of the authors of the recent report China’s Environment: Big Issues, Accelerating Effort, Ample Opportunities.

The Goldman Sachs report, released in July, notes that unprecedented growth has led to record levels of pollution in China’s air, water and soil – 60% of the country’s groundwater is unfit for human consumption and 19% of its arable land exceeds the national pollution standards. The report says that as calls to fight air pollution have grown louder across China, the country is accelerating environmental initiatives, resulting in unprecedented government spending and ample investment opportunities.
