Communications Intern (Paid) – Conservation team

The Paulson Institute, with offices in downtown Chicago and Beijing, has an immediate opportunity for a Communications Intern to join our Conservation Program team. Through our work on conservation, green finance, and a range of other current issues, we strive to foster a US-China relationship that serves to maintain global order in a rapidly evolving world. Based in downtown Chicago, this is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your career.

We seek an enthusiastic and skilled intern to support our communications and electronic publishing efforts. The selected candidate will assist in creating and disseminating content related to China-focused conservation issues, leveraging his/her expertise in editorial and visual communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading written content related to conservation issues in China (e.g., wetland protection, bird conservation, national parks, nature financing, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Conservation Program team to create visually engaging materials, such as newsletters, bulletins, infographics, and presentations.
  • Utilize desktop publishing software/platforms to design and layout various electronic publications.
  • Research and gather relevant information to support content creation and communication strategies.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent English language skills at a native speaker level.
  • Experience in publishing, such as involvement with school newspapers or magazines.
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing software/platforms (e.g., Microsoft Publisher, Adobe InDesign, Mailchimp, and Mailer Lite, etc.) is preferable.
  • Strong visual communication skills.
  • Interest in and knowledgeable about main nature conservation issues.
  • Chinese language skills (intermediate and above) are preferable.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and attention to detail.

The internship will require approximately 8 hours per week from April through mid-December and may be extended. This is a paid internship working either remotely or in Paulson Institute’s Chicago office.
