Paulson Institute Chairman Hank Paulson and Chinese Minister of Environmental Protection Chen Jining met today in Beijing to discuss the pressing issue of environmental policy. The two issued a memorandum of understanding (MOU) after exchanging ideas on sustainability.
Paulson expressed his appreciation at existing Chinese efforts towards environmental protection and noted that the memorandum is the latest effort in a global push towards more sustainable development.
In the meeting, Chen described several new developments in Chinese environmental policy, including a new program that targets soil pollution. So far, plans targeting air, water, and soil pollution have been launched.
The new Memorandum targets air pollution, wetland ecosystem protection, the environmental risks involved in cross-border investment, and institutional structures governing Chinese national parks.
The memorandum was signed by Jerry Yu, the chief representative of the Paulson Institute’s Beijing office, and Chen Liang, the Director-General of the MEP Foreign Economic Cooperation Office.
