Advancing sustainable growth in the United States and China

Why the U.S. Should Welcome Chinese Foreign Investment: Jobs!

China Foreign Investment Chart

With recent news that Chinese investment in the United States this year is set to double the $15bn record mark from 2015, should the U.S. be doing more to attract Chinese dealmakers? New data compiled by Bloomberg indicates the U.S. is trailing Europe in attracting Chinese investment, which has been proven to create jobs in local economies. In fact, a 2016 Rhodium Group study calculated that over 1,900 Chinese-affiliated companies now employ some 90,000 Americans full-time. These jobs stretch across more than 80% of U.S. congressional districts. Not only are these investment flows bringing job creation, and competition in consumer markets, but they have the potential to strengthen the overall U.S.-China relationship.
