Advancing sustainable growth in the United States and China

Paulson Institute Names New President

Dietmar Grimm brings a wealth of experience and vision to lead Institute’s strategy and operations

The Paulson Institute today announced that Dietmar Grimm has joined the Institute as president.  In this role, Grimm will be responsible for managing the overall activities and development and execution of strategy of the Paulson Institute in the United States and China. With Chairman Henry M. Paulson, Jr., he also will oversee the implementation of programs and policies that support the Institute’s mission.

“I am pleased to welcome Dietmar Grimm as president of the Paulson Institute,” Paulson said. “Dietmar brings a wealth of relevant experience to our team that I’m confident will serve the Institute well. His management skills and vision will help drive the Institute forward as we work to strengthen relations between the United States and China, while promoting sustainable economic growth and a cleaner environment.”

“I am incredibly excited to work with Secretary Paulson and the entire Institute team to broaden impact toward the mission – especially at this critical moment in history. Working in China, I have developed a deep appreciation for the Institute’s people, values, and ability to 知行合一 ‘zhixing heyi’ or ‘unite knowledge and action.’ If you care about the future of the planet, there may be nothing more important today than the Institute’s mission. I could not be more honored to have this opportunity.”

Grimm will build on the strong foundation built over the last four years by outgoing Executive Director Cynthia Zeltwanger. He joins the Paulson Institute after working at The Nature Conservancy (TNC), where he has served since 2013 in a number of senior roles, including as executive representative of its China program and global managing director of conservation strategy.

Over the past three years at TNC in Beijing, Grimm helped guide the China program successfully through a transition period, including its registration under China’s new foreign non-government organization law. He also focused on expanding the scope and scale of programs to face the challenges in China and China’s role globally through aligning the program and the board to TNC’s global strategies. Previously, he served as vice president of marketing, communications and strategy at Trout Unlimited, and was a co-founder of the Redstone Strategy Group. Earlier in his career, he was a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Grimm graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a BA in economics.

About the Paulson Institute
The Paulson Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit “think and do” tank grounded in the principle that today’s most pressing economic and environmental challenges can be solved only if the United States and China work in complementary ways. Our mission is to strengthen U.S.-China relations and to advance sustainable economic growth and environmental protection in both countries. Founded in 2011 by Henry M. Paulson, Jr., the 74th Secretary of the Treasury and former Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs, the Institute is based in Chicago and has offices in Washington, San Francisco, and Beijing.
