On October 2, 2013, The Paulson Institute hosted a delegation from Guangzhou. Guest speakers included former City of Chicago Budget Director Eugene Munin and Water Commissioner Thomas Powers.
The conversation included discussion of city budgets and water infrastructure and both Munin and Powers touched on key issues facing those tasked with city management. Another topic of interest was the government shutdown and its effect on the District of Columbia. Munin and Powers also discussed how Chicago deals with crime and violence. The City of Chicago projects its population to increase by 1 million by 2050, and the delegation was able to offer insight on the effects of population growth.
