The power sector alone accounts for about half of China’s annual coal consumption and the country has already announced major reforms upcoming. There are a number of market-oriented reforms that could increase uptake of renewable energy and end-use energy efficiency. These quick wins can support emissions and air quality objectives, while continuing to support economic development.
